Longtime support

Is the longtime support of the X Compact tied to the support of the X/XA/X Performance or the XZ? It would be pretty dull to get the phone in November and get only one year and a half ot support.

Thanks!

the OEMS, aren't bound strictly to adhere to the 18 months update policy google intended, so it is still up to them if they update the devices (which they base on not just on hardware requirements but also if the device will run the newest android update on top of the custimizations they put in, that is why you see some device that are not upgraded officially but will run the new android update using 3rd party roms like cyanogen).

as for your question, I think  Xperia X Compact is on the same level with Xperia X (XA uses mediatek). and X Performance with XZ (based on the specs) but the longtime support doesnt usually folow specific end date. as long as Sony could make the newest android update run fast and smooth on the older device  or decide that is financialy better to support newer devices, it is up to them to support the devices,

remember Xperia z2 managed to be updated from android 4.4.1, 4.4.4, 5.0, 5.1.1, up to 6.0 that's 3 major android updates. (2013-2015)

Yes, I'm talking about Android support.

Let's take for example the Z1 and Z1C. They were released at different points (One in September and one in January the next year), but they got the same support span. And Z1C even though it was released on January 2016 didn't get the Marshmallow update from 2015, even though it still in the 18 months support by the time of MM release.

The same happened to the Z3 and Z3C. But here it was Qualcomm not wanting to release the drivers, even though there were 4 Previews released before.

That's why I asked.

Thanks! This is the kind of answer I was expecting.

I don't see Sony updating the Big Brother and not the Compact, or the opposite. I was asking this question because they released the XC alongside XZ for whatever reason.

Z,Z1 got through some major updates  as  well.
