Does anyone know how many cooling fans the VGN-NR21Z has?

I'm curious as the right hand side has the vents and there's definitely a fan there but there is also a constant whirring on the left hand side too, which sounds exactly like a fan....but I think it might be the hard drive. Can anyone confirm there are two (or more) fans in this model? Thanks!

Most Vaios have just the one cooling fan. You are right - the hard drive is front/left.

I think your NR-Series will be similar to this N-Series: -

So is it my hard drive that sounds like a fan then?? Never heard one whirring so much! Oh and is there any way I can temporarily (and briefly, obviously) switch off the hard drive just to see if it is that?

Look in your Power Management Options.

There will be an option to turn off the hard disc after a certain period of time.

Set this to something like 3 minutes on battery and see if this helps.

I tried this, ran on battery power, adjusted the power profile so that the hard disk turned off after 2 mins, left my pc alone for 5 mins....and nothing happened. The hard disk remained active! Is this a Vista fault??
