Hi
I just got my Sony Xperia XZ today, and it has exactly the same problem I had before with the Z3.
Please note that this is straight out of the box experience, I have installed only a few apps, such as Spotify and Twitter.
When I plug in my headphones (Audio Technica ATH-CKS55i) (they have a mic as well), they are properly detected by my phone. I then proceed to listen to something from Spotify, or Youtube, it doesnt really matter what, because even if I just leave them plugged in, without any sound or music playing at all, after a few moments (usually 10-20 seconds), the detection of the headphones are lost, and the music is either paused or plays through the speakers.
I have a few other phones I've used my headphones with, without any problems at all. Such as Samsung S7, Lumia 1520, Lumia 950 XL, Samsung Note 2, as well as my stationary computer with built in soundcard (realtek) and a Fujitsu LIFEBOOK NH532. Only the Xperia XZ(and my old Z3) has this issue.
Does anyone know of anything that might fix this problem? It has to be software, but what could it be, something built in to the Xperia line? Some setting I don't know about?
Would gladly appreciate some help as I've searched for hours upon hours for a solution to this problem with no avail.
Thanks for reading
The existing thread seems to be locked. I think the glitch could be related to the noise cancelling setting. I was messing abut with the mic buttons trying to get my earphones to connect and suddenly my phone seemed to think I had noise cancelling earphones plugged in. It had a few headphone selections in the drop down list (all Sony model numbers) After I selected one of the model numbers, my B&O H3 earphones started working as they should. I then turned off noice cancelling and my earphones went back to losing sound after a few seconds.
Because I my earphones are not noise cancelling, I can't recreate this again as the option to turn on noise cancelling is greyed out. But I downloaded a noise canceller app from the play store and as long as I start the app before plugging in my earphones and leave it running in the background, my h3's will work.
I wonder if the headphone issue is a glitch or by design! A premium phone that is only compatible with same brand accessories. That kind of sounds familar, I just can't think why!
The app was called Noise Canceller by Haowen Ning if anybody wants to try it on the play store.
Hi.
I tried the app, with my Bowers&Wilkins C5. No success.
I´m going to try 2 different adapters which I´ve ordered locally, with 3 and 4 pin plugs. I´ve got my headphones to work with a 2 pin adapter, but I can´t adjust the volume with that one.I´ll let you know when I have tested those others.
And I totally agree, a premium phone that only accepts a few 3rd party brands is crap. Just like that other fruit brand.. Lame.
Hi, I got the app to work by starting it then pressing the home key to minimise it so it still runs in the background. Pressing the back key while in the app closes it and my earphones would still lose sound. I would put my earphones in the jack after starting the app. If they were already in, again the app had no affect.
I also use a sony xperia z4 tablet which is running android nougat and my earphones work perfectly on that, so it can't be an android problem.
Hi.
I just received the adapters. And I can listen to music using the 3 pin plug (my headphones are 4 pin)
However, I cannot adjust the volume and most probably the mic won´t work. Eeventhough I can listen to music with MY headphones..
I´ll try again with the app. Thanks for the tips.
It actually works, using the app they way you described.
Thanks, and have great weekend.
Hi, great to see the app works for you, although you shoudn't need to be starting other apps to get your earphones working. I noticed with my earphones that the app will give an echo effect while listening to music, for example coughing or clapping your hands. I will hear the cough or clap a second later through my earphones. I turned the blue bars in the app down as low as they could go and this stopped the echo. All the best.
Just got my new Xperia XZ - and the phone would not recognize Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 headphones. When the headphones' jack is plugged in - XZ plays on internal speaker only. The headphones only work with SoundAbout app which forces sound into wired headset. At the same time the phone recognizes little in-ear Sony headphones that came with the XZ. The Momentums used to work perfectly well with my previous Sony mobile (Z3). I have created a debugging report as explained in one of the threads on this forum - can upload it if instructed by support.
Dear Sony, please could help to solve the issue?
Thanks
Its looking likely that Sony have blocked the ability to use other manufacturer's headphones. I've been able to get my earphones working by using 3rd party apps. the soundabout app, an app called noise canceller and a 3rd app called microphone blocker. I have to start one of these apps before my headphones are recognised. After paying well over £100 for my earphones, I'm not going to fork out more money because Sony have decided only their accessories should work on the xz.
