Fast-charger UCH12 is not charging fast

Just bought my XZ and the fast charger UCH12 today, it still took more than 3 hours to charge from 39 per cent to full.

What's wrong with it?

Does XZ really support fast chaging 3.0?

Glad to hear that you got your Xperia XZ Slightly_smiling_Face

This may also be releated to the Battery Care feature in the phone.

Battery Care is a feature that increases the battery lifespan. It automatically detects when you leave your device fully charged for a long time, and adapts the charging speed during that period to reduce the battery wear. The feature will start a regular charging cycle that temporarily stops when the battery level has reached 90%. The feature will then resume charging 70 minutes before user data indicates that the battery is expected to be fully charged, and charge until the battery level has reached 100%. It takes a week for the feature to learn your charge cycle at least.

When Battery Care is enabled, you will get a message saying when the battery is fully charged. The Battery Care is a recommended feature that is enabled by default. You can, however, disable Battery care in the Settings menu:

  1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
  2. Find and tap Settings > Battery > Battery Care.
  3. Drag the slider beside On to the right.

Was it warm or hot when you plugged it in?
We're you still using it whilst charging?
Was it still recovering your apps from play store?

it was warm

I was using it to install apps while charging, but I stopped using it after 30 mins. Even so, it still took 2 hours for reaching 60% from to full....

That does seem odd, it could have been still building the caches or syncing data..

Give it a day to settle and see what the results are then, you'll probably find it's much faster

Hi. Got my XZ yesterday and it doesn't come with a quick charger. Fine, I bought some. None of them are working though.

Tried Anker and Aukey, and also the charger from my wife's HTC 10. Any ideas why this isn't working?

Everything I've read (the specs on the official site) say that this phone supports Quick Charge. I've tested the HTC 10 in all 3 chargers and it quick charges so I know it's not them.

Tried it with Battery Care off and nothing. When Battery Care is on all I get is messages saying "Battery Care has crashed" or something. Pretty annoying.

As far as I know, Taiwanese version comes with the fast charger.

And I think you have to buy the Sony original fast charger to make it work, third party charger won't work well I guess.

@jimmystrew79

Sorry to hear that Slightly_frowning_Face

Doesn't your Xperia XZ charge at all using these or is it that it charges but at the same speed as with the one that came in the box?

Would you be willing to take a log from your phone after you got the message that Battery Care has crashed and send this to me in a private message? I'll forward the log internally for investigation.

To do this:
Settings > About phone > Build number, tap 7 times on the build number
Go back to Settings and select Developer options and turn on "USB debugging". Then tap "Logger buffer sizes" and set this to "4 M".
- Enable Battery Care and connect the charger that gave you the error. If you get the message again:
Settings > Developer options, select "Take bug report". When the report is ready (may take a minute or so) you get a notification that you can tap and share to Google Drive. Please send me a link to this file in a private message.

Thanks Rickard but I've had some time to look at Ampere while charging and everything seems OK.

Standard charger is fine. My XZ on the Anker charger is peaking about 2190ma when charging at a low percent, whereas my Z2 on the old standard charger peaks around 730ma - this is after 5 minutes for both. Was just a little freaked that it didn't indicate that it was "charging rapidly". Guessing the throttling that Sony implement will help battery life, although it was a bit of a sore one seeing the wife's HTC 10 peak around 2900ma.

Haven't been able to replicate the Battery Care crashing, although this may have only happened with the Anker Car Charger - for some reason my phone switches itself of when it's connected to that and I kill my engine, dunno what that's all about.

Glad to hear that it works now Slightly_smiling_Face

In case it should happen again, if possible, please take a log from the phone and will investigate this and see if it can reveal the cause.

Regarding the Anker car charger, i see that the same thing also happens to another user in this thread: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-XZ/In-car-USB-charging-XZ-auto-shut-down/m-p/1167316

It might be that the charger is incompatible with the phone somehow. Does it only happen with this charger?
