Can't download/save/take pictures/etc after Android Nougat Update

So I updated my Xperia X to the newest Android Model (Android Nougat) over night, and realised the first troubles when starting it again in the morning, it took forever to start and some apps took even longer until they were working (a.e. YouTube). But the real issue I realised just now: I can't use my internal memory (correct word? Don't know) anymore, can't download pictures or videos from WhatsApp, can't take pictures anymore, nothing...
Error message reads "Download failed, no internal memory. Deactivate it as an external memory and try again." But how, what where? Does anyone know what I have to do??

Hi @Melicopter, welcome to our forum!

I'm sorry to hear about the troubles after updating your phone. Slightly_frowning_Face

Can you see the internal storage if you go to Settings > Storage & memory > tap on the picture or on the text "Tap for more details"?

If you can see it in here, do you have an SD card in your phone? If you do, can you try removing it and then restart the device and see if you are able to for example take a photo?

If you still receive the same message, reboot your phone in safe mode and see if you are able to take a photo here.

If you can't take a photo and save it to the internal storage in the phone while in safe mode, I would recommend performing a software repair using Xperia Companion. Do note that this will delete all data stored on your internal storage so create a backup using Xperia Companion before you start with the repair.

I'm sorry for any inconvience and let me know how it goes!

Thx for your help! Removing the SD card (or probably just restarting again?) helped a lot and it works again (both with and without de SD card). But I realised the phone is a lot slower and more buggy if I leave the SD card inside... Not sure if this is because of the programm or the SD card (it's a cheaper one), but it feels like the update made it worse :S but at least it's working now so that's good Slightly_smiling_Face

Thanks for the swift reply!

I'm glad to hear it's working now. Slightly_smiling_Face

Have you moved any applications to your SD card, or do you have it mostly for media such as photos and videos?

If you have apps on your SD card you can try moving them back to the internal storage and see if you experience any improvment when the SD card is mounted in your phone. To do that, go to Settings > Apps > name of the app > Storage > Change.

If you only have media on the SD card, I would recommend that you move all the data from your SD card to for example a computer and then format your SD card.

You can format the card directly in the phone, using another device or on a computer.

If you want to format it in the phone you will find that option in Settings > Storage & memory > Storage usage > SD card > 3 dots in the top right corner > Storage settings > Format.

Let me know how it goes and Merry Christmas! Slightly_smiling_Face
