My 2019 iMac will not recognise my 2008 Z1 camera . I have firewire to 9 pin plug which is plugged d in to Thunderbolt to firewire adaptor and then Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adaptor both Sony into the back of my Mac.
I have tried all ways and it just is not recognised by iMovie or anything else.
Hi gascoyneone, that's an old camera, mostly it won't be. If you tried removing the batteries, resetting, different cables, etc. Then it might be faulty or simply not compatible. I couldn't even find it on the website to help you more. So not sure if it's worth sending it for inspection and paying for a repair if needed.
The Z1U seem to be not compatible https://support.apple.com/en-md/guide/imovie/mov6af9c94c1/mac
But I found this really strange. Usually the firewire is a standard without particular requirements.
As Sony, try to see this https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00032563
But I think that is more a problemo on mac side. In particular the OS too newer. Thake a look https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/410956/imovie-does-not-see-my-mini-dv-tapes
You can also try your luck using this one.
If it still won't work, I think you will need to rely on a capture card.
