Confused with Device Memory and Internal Storage

In storage manager I can see 3 options:

1) DEVICE MEMORY

Coloured bar, 112MB Available, 630+62.91MB used.

2.) SD Card (External 16GB card)

Colored bar.

3.) INTERNAL STORAGE

(Grey Bar)Total space: 1.20GB, Available: 0.97GB

My doubt is, why INTERNAL STORAGE is not being used at all.

Can't I install or move some apps from DEVICE MEMORY/SD CARD to Internal Storage.

As in file manager, I can see INTERNAL STORAGE, camera photos and some pre-existing file are only present there.

Please suggest.

Or, can I merge both DEVIDE & INTERNAL STORAGE partitions?

It might be that some apps cannot be installed to SD card.Have you tried repairing with sony update service?

I wish there's a way to enlarge Xperia C's device memory...

I read the comments. Based on my understanding, total internal storage are divided into 2 "device memory" and "internal storage" , 4gb each for a total of 8gb Internal memory. Device memory are basically intended for apps and the Internal storage are intended for videos, photos, music, etc. External memory or SD card will only serve as an extension. You can save photos, music, videos etc. In the external memory if prefered but for apps the allocation will be in the device memory, if you choose the external memory as a preferred storage what will be saved in the external memory will be the music photos, videos and other files that the apps use so it can run. This applies to 2013 sony models. I use Experia C and quite frustrated by the issue. I think sony cant do anything about it. This is just based on my understanding anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I too facing the same problem. Because of this  i'm totally frustrated. I couldn't even install a new application after updating the OS. It is utter waste for RS 20,000. Atleast on your next update try to fix this problem. Otherwise You are going to lose all the customers who buys xperia c, they won' t  turn back you unless you you provide the solution for their problem.

Regards,

Buyer of the worthless phone

the link that was shared for memory in android devices :

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/Memory-in-Android-devices/m-p/348064#U348064

clearly mentions that 2013 sony products have merged the internal storage and phone memory.

Also the SAME is mentioned in the Xperic C WHITE PAPERS.

BUT SUPRISINGLY the Xperia C, a 2013 product of SONY still has seperate phone/device memory and internal storage.

can some one from SONY please explain this ?

snippet of info provided in the above link :

"Please note that in Sony Mobile 2013 products, “Internal Storage” is now the combination of what was previously known as “Device Memory” or “Phone Memory” (for applications and their data – also previously known as “/data”) and “Internal Storage” (for user’s content – also previously known as “/ sdcard”). The reason for this change is to make the use of available memory more flexible, and also to enable the optional encryption of user’s content."

Dear Friends

I am using this phone for the past five months. Never encountered any problems with it. It is the best phone if you compare the price, dual sim, great music etc.

I only faced the problem of insufficent memory. It was showing only 30mb free. Now i am sitting comfortable with 500+mb free. I recommend these fews steps to free memory.

1)clear cached data
2)in the app info - move app to sd card manually
3)in the app info - uninstall updates for those apps which you think it is not nessary to update. It will work fine with the preset factory settings. this will free considerable memory.
4) in the app info - clear data for those apps which you know is not necessary. But be careful, if you use this option you have to login again for some apps like facebook, line, whatsapp, viber etc
5)My line was taking 200+ mb as data in the phone. i went to line and cleared the conversations which i did not require.

i really recomend step 3 thats really helpful

i recieve 500+mb

As per specification above mobile have 4 GB internal memory but after purchasing it has been observed that usable is 1.2 GB  but all the application can be downloaded in SD card.

Now it is happening  when we are downloading any app, data memory is saving data card but app memory is saving to internal storage ( Device Memory) & creating problem.

Please confirm whether there is any solution
