Sony’s Wireless Multi-room technology makes it easier than ever to listen to the music you want to hear in any room of your house. By wireless connecting a group of compatible Sony speakers, soundbars or AV receivers and controlling them via your smartphone or tablet, you can enjoy your favourite album in one room while the kids listen to something entirely different in the next room.

It only takes a few steps to get up-and-running with Wireless Multi-room, and we’ve decided to make the process as simple as possible or you with this step-by-step blog...

Download SongPal

First thing’s first: you’ll need to download the Sony SongPal app to your phone. SongPal is the control centre for the entire Wireless Multi-room experience, and so you need this in order to connect your devices and stream your music wirelessly.

To download and install, simply head to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, search for ‘SongPal’, and download the app. If you have already SongPal installed, make sure you’ve updated to the latest version to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Connect everything to one network

Once you install SongPal, you need to make sure all of your Multi-room-compatible devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your smartphone.

This is much easier than it might sound. Simply turn on each device and make sure Bluetooth is switched on for each one, and then open the SongPal app. If the speakers automatically appear on the SongPal app, all you need to do is tap on one of the speakers, enter the password for your Wi-Fi network and repeat the process for the rest of your speakers.

If the speakers don’t automatically appear in SongPal, don’t worry. Simply tap the ‘+’ button at the top of SongPal, turn on Bluetooth and NFC on your phone, and then just hold it next to the top of each speaker to connect via NFC (or if you’d rather, you can just connect manually via Bluetooth). Once connected, enter your Wi-Fi password as requested by SongPal, and you’re done!

Group your speakers together

It’s now up to you to choose how you want to enjoy your music.

For those looking to play the same music across multiple devices, you need to ‘group’ them together using the SongPal app. To do this, simply choose one of the devices within SongPal, tap the ‘Group with other speakers’ button, select the Wireless Multi-room option and then choose the other speaker(s) that you want to add to the group. The app will also prompt you to save the group so it’s easy to access for future use.

Or, if you’d rather listen to different music on each device, simply select one and choose your preferred music service just like you would in a usual listening situation. Easy.

Enjoy!

And that’s it! Once you’ve followed all these steps you’ll be successfully set-up for Wireless Multi-room listening, and the best part is that you’ll never have to go through these steps again (unless you choose to add additional speakers to your Multi-room system in the future, of course). Have fun!
