Remote control intermittently working but infrequently.

For the last week or so my TV isn't responding to the remote control. Occasionally it will work to turn the TV on (I still try it) and sometimes it will start working after the TV has been on for a while, but it's infrequent. I know the remote works because I've tried it on a different TV and it works. There's nothing in front of the TV (it's wall mounted), batteries are fine. Any ideas?

Try what Sony suggests. Please verify also which it the actual tv your are dealing with.

Hi rooobb, I did use that and checked as they suggested, but I'm convinced it's a software issue. It's the receiver on the TV I'm sure, I've used the remote on another TV and that worked fine. The TV is a 55xf7596.

If it is a software it could be possibly related to some app you installed on the tv (if any). Otherways I suggest to call the support for changing the remote or the receiver on the tv

Randomly this issue disappeared as quickly as it started and all has been fine for the last few months, until now, it's just started happening again? Any new ideas, any other suggestions?

Hey Smeg.Head, did you try the suggested steps in the above link again?

So late last evening (too late in hindsight) I decide to run through the options again, but failed to halt at the factory reset which I stopped before last time. Now I have a TV which sits on the welcome screen asking me to choose a language which of course I can't as it won't see the remote control. The IR sensor is failing to pick up signals so I guess I've buggered it up completely now. Bit f'd off as it isn't much more than a couple of years old, although to be fair it was a warranty replacement. Any ideas? Can the IR sensor be replaced easily enough? I can get a pretty decent Samsung TV for around £500 with a 5 year warranty so hardly worth spending much to get it fixed really, unless it's something I can do myself

You may want to try to force a factory reset: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00159906

I did, and that's now my problem. The TV starts and now sits on the language screen which I can't progress as the remote doesn't work. If anyone else reads this resetting is absolutely the last resort as it makes the TV unusable without remote as there are no manual buttons. Now investigating the possibility of swapping out the sensor if I can get hold of one

Sounds like you need to have the TV inspected: https://locator.sony/en_GB/servicecenters
