Hi,

Posting here on the off-chance anyone has some advice. I’ve had the above Micro System since 2008 and it’s been fine until recently when the CD player has begun acting-up. The symptoms are; failure to read CDs when loaded (the discs are clean and undamaged, and I believe the CD Player’s lens is clean).

The Sony support site suggests disconnecting from the mains and waiting at least 30 seconds before powering back on. When I do this the player will usually read the CD and begin to play, but a few minutes into the disc the sound begins to distort (a cross between tape wow and flutter and static/popping distortion) which gradually gets worse.

I appreciate it’s a very old piece of kit but it has sentimental value and is otherwise in perfect condition. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this, and whether it might be repairable?

Hi,

Most likely the laser or better the focus lens of the pick-up unit has worn out.

So I please send the unit to a repair centre to fix the unit.

Cheers

Peter
