WH-H910N headphones touch sensor has stopped controlling playback

In the last couple of days, the touch sensor on my headphones has stopped controlling playback my Xperia 5ii on any of my apps: Audible, Listen Audiobook Player, Spotify, Prime Music, Sony Music Centre.

The headphones still beep when I double tap, but it doesn't start or stop playback. Similarly, swiping back or forward no longer performs the correct skip function.

Swiping up or down still controls the volume, so the pad is still working to an extent.

Is there a way to fix this? I wondered whether a software update had messed it up, but there don't seem to be any recent changes.
